How to Prepare for Circadia Installation: Network, Power, and Placement Guidelines

This article provides system requirements, installation guidelines, and a setup checklist to ensure a smooth Circadia device implementation.

Updated over 5 months ago

1. Network & Wi-Fi Requirements

  • Ensure a stable Wi-Fi connection with a minimum speed of 5 Mbps per device.

  • Confirm your network operates on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band (Circadia does not support 5 GHz networks).

  • Provide a secure SSID and password for device connectivity.

  • Verify there are no firewall restrictions that may block Circadia device communication.

  • If Wi-Fi is not managed within the facility, please provide contact information for your external IT provider so we can coordinate directly as needed.

2. Power & Electrical Setup

  • Ensure a power outlet is available near the the patient's bedside.

  • Use medical-grade powerstrips or upgrade to quad receptacles when outlet space is limited.

3. Device Placement Guidelines

  • Circadia devices are typically mounted 54 inches from the floor, centered above the headboard of the patient’s bed to ensure accurate monitoring.

  • Devices must have a clear line of sight to the bed. Avoid placing them behind furniture, curtains, lifts, or medical equipment.

  • If the center wall is obstructed, the device will be mounted to the side of the bed instead.

  • For rooms housing behavioral or dementia patients, we recommend using a clear plastic cover (such as a thermostat cover) to protect the device without affecting performance.

  • As part of our standard installation protocol, we will install one device first and obtain administrator approval before continuing with the full installation.

4. Facility Pre-Assessment Form Requirement

Before installation, we need key facility details to ensure a smooth setup. The Facility Pre-Assessment Form helps our team plan ahead and avoid delays during installation.

What you’ll need to provide

Facility Details – Name, contact information, and total bed count.

Electrical Setup – Confirm available outlets near each bed. If outlets are limited, outline how this will be addressed (e.g., quad receptacles will be added, medical-grade power strips will be purchased).

Wall Type – Describe the wall surface at the head of each bed (e.g., drywall, brick, concrete). This ensures we bring the right tools for proper mounting.

Room Changes – Let us know if any rooms have been repurposed (e.g., turned into offices or storage) or had occupancy changes (e.g., private to semi-private).

Wi-Fi Readiness – Identify any rooms or areas with known weak Wi-Fi so our team can coordinate with IT before installation.

Room Layouts – Upload a floor plan and photos showing outlet placement near the bedside in a typical resident room.

Site-Specific Considerations – Share any construction activity, access restrictions, or infection control policies that could impact install day.

Network & Wi-Fi

  • Stable Wi-Fi connection with at least 5 Mbps per device.

  • Must operate on 2.4 GHz (not 5 GHz).

  • Confirm no firewall restrictions will block Circadia devices.

  • If an outside IT vendor manages your Wi-Fi, please provide their contact info so Circadia can coordinate.

Power & Electrical

  • Ensure a power outlet is near each patient’s bed.

  • Use medical-grade power strips or add quad outlets if space is limited.

Placement

  • Devices are mounted 54 inches from the floor, centered above the headboard.

  • Must have a clear line of sight to the bed.

  • Avoid obstructions like furniture, curtains, or lifts.

  • For behavioral units, use a clear protective cover to prevent tampering.
